Refactor & Expand Ruby on Rails-Based Search/Browse Feature

We are a web platform for Local Marketing, Cross-Promotion, and Collaboration.

At the heart of our app, we allow businesses to support other businesses and organizations by becoming part of what we call a Local Network. The idea is to allow businesses to work together to market themselves as a community online. i.e. the notion of building a Main Street environment online.

While we have the general follower/followee structure and interface in place, we need a better mechanism to help people build out their networks more quickly.

Therefore we want to refactor and expand our existing interface and add a browse feature which will enable the following:

1) Makes it easy for a business to lookup any other business in

the database and add it to their local Networks

2) Streamline the process so it’s easy to do so regardless of

where you start the process in the app

3) Find recommendations of other businesses to support

4) Remove React from lookup component, replace it with jQuery, and improve the

searchability

5) Have the ability to follow Local Networks setup by other

accounts (TBD)

Our app is primarily Ruby on Rails with some React components sprinkled in through the Asset Pipeline; although we are trying to move away from React so while there may be some interaction with existing react components, no new components will be required. Instead, we will rely on jQuery and Bootstrap to quickly build out this feature.

Generally, we work on a fixed-bid basis and provide a budgetary range we expect the project to be completed within. For this project, the budget it $1,200-$1,800 so we'll fund this project with $1,500 to cover the initial work but we'd like to continue working together on additional projects if it's a good fit.

Therefore, the ideal candidate must be able to implement new features, bug fixes, and refinements in our application which is built in Ruby/Rails/Bootstrap/jQuery & React. Bonus points if you have a strong eye toward mobile-first SaaS solutions.

It's important that you can work without full specs or architectural guidance but rather operate from wireframes and an understanding of the goals to be reached with a problem solving approach. You must be comfortable asking questions and pushing back or providing alternative solutions and you must also have an eye toward speed and getting stuff done i.e. know when good is good enough and move on.

If this sounds like a project you'd be well suited for and you like the idea of working to strengthen local businesses and communities then we'd like to speak with you.
