Android Engineer

We’re searching for the right candidate for a position as a Android Operating System Sr. Engineer working with our existing team of Back-end, Front end Engineers. Here’s what you’ll accomplish in the first 90 days:

• You’ll go through our existing custom Android ROM and map out the architecture with the help of the current Android developer has been part-time.

• You’ll learn our backend data model and come to understand our use-case and what customers are demanding.

• You’ll create a strong communication bond between the Product Lead to make sure we’re building the right things in the right priority.

• You’ll write new code to meet our users most needed features.

• You’ll squash bugs when needed!

• You’ll likely implement testing and move us closer to passing Joel’s test, building to support the growth of our development team over time.

• You’ll live and breathe the user experience for kids on Android, and feel personally responsible when they have any sub-optimal experience!

• You’ll make architectural decisions with major implications for our customers and business.

• You’ll be a valued and trusted member of our small but ambitious band do-gooders, building incredible tech for kids.

• You’ve got a lot experience with AOSP. You know the in’s and out’s of the latest changes from Android 9 to 10.

• Organized and detail-oriented in your work.

• You’re self-motivated and a self-starter.

• You love to learn new things and have a track record of trying new tools and learning them until becoming proficient.

• You can understand business considerations including stage of the company and can take this into account when deciding technical architecture choices.

• You are interested in learning everything you can, all the time.



Here are things that aren’t required but are “nice-to-haves”.

• You’ve worked or volunteered with elementary-school aged kids or their parents and have an interest and perspective on what makes them tick.

• You’ve done something with animations on Android or in Java
