Job Description

We are seeking a WordPress Developer responsible for both back-end and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and so on). The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems. Experience with the responsive and adaptive design is strongly preferred. Also, an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment is preferred.



Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing new features and functionality

• Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture

• Ensuring high-performance and availability, and managing all technical aspects of the CMS

• Helping formulate an effective, responsive design and turning it into a working theme and plugin



Skills and Qualifications

FRONTEND

• Excellent knowledge of HTML5/XHTML, XML, AJAX, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS3

• Excellent knowledge of WooCommerce and WordPress

• Experience with responsive design without dependence on frameworks

• Strong sense of visual design

• An understanding of front-end optimization techniques

• Knowledge of usability / user experience design is a plus

• Experience maintaining version control using Git



BACKEND

• Strong experience with custom WordPress theme development, including accommodating full user editability, complex layouts, and plugins that require theme customization – we don’t work with prebuilt themes so it is important to have the ability to create complex setups from scratch

• Experience creating custom themes for use with WooCommerce

• Familiarity with various commonplace and proven plugins such as: Advanced Custom Fields, Gravity Forms, InstaShop, YITH, Page Builder SiteOrigin

• Experience with creating custom WordPress plugins is a plus

• Thorough understanding of custom post types and taxonomies

• Working knowledge of basic PHP and MySQL

• An understanding of programming security best practices

• Familiarity with issues in web design & development and accessibility is a plus



Native French speaker is a serious plus!

3+ years experience with WooCommerce and WordPress

3+ years front-end development, solid project-level experience with WordPress, HTML, CSS

Previous development firm/agency experience preferred
