Data Scientist
We've recently announced the close of our Series A funding round and are now looking to hire a DATA SCIENTIST to help drive the next stage of the company's growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are building distributed systems for some of the world's leading financial institutions. You will be heavily involved in solving challenging and complex problems faced in banking and capital markets, using cutting-edge technology. As the data scientist, you will be responsible for:
· Developing simulations and benchmarking routines under different system configurations and workload scenarios;
· Designing and helping to implement the simulation infrastructure, including database system and modelling language interfaces;
· Data analytics and visualisation of data from simulation runs;
· Developing a methodology and process for managing simulation test data sets, maintenance of a historical test output corpus, comparisons of simulations over time across different system configurations;
· Development of markdown and tex-based reporting and technical documentation workflows;
· Helping to build out a scalable simulation network and working on implementation;
· Helping to specify and implement scalable simulation infrastructure;
· Continued development of in-house documentation toolchain based on pandoc, latex, various GNU tools and in-house code libraries;
· Analysis and design activities with architects and engineers as relevant to your role and project responsibilities;
The role will involve:
· Defining, creating and running analytical models that will underpin network simulations;
· Data presentation - shaping data into formats that can be visualised;
· Helping to build out a scalable simulation network and working on implementation;
· Having ownership of business analysis and systems design for internal tooling and infrastructure (in-house systems);
· Data cleansing and conversions to maintain test data sets and output archive;
· Data conversions of source text data to html and other formats as required by document authoring workflows and visualisation of data;
· Controlled vocabulary development and maintenance;
· Producing data visualisations via Open Source tooling.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIALS
You have strong skills in most of the following languages, platforms and tools:
· R, Python, Javascript, Matlab
· RDBMS, Hadoop, Splunk, D3 JS, Pandoc, Neo4j
· Development on *nix platforms using GNU tools
· Proven track record of inhabiting the world of data science - analytics, modeling, and visualization. You will know how to turn raw data into a format that is easy to understand visually and will have defined and created analytical models in order to tell a story and inform the direction of a new product or technology infrastructure.
· You have experience writing code for interfacing with the back-end of a complex system.
· You will have a research background in data methods.
· You have a track record of working highly collaboratively as part of a team, whilst taking personal responsibility for specific contributions or components, from ideation, via conceptualisation, design, to implementation and deployment.
ATTRIBUTES - What we need from you:
· You will describe yourself as a data scientist and a programmer with active participation in open source communities.
· Your thinking and execution will be driven by a good balance between (a) what it conceptually correct, scalable, and at the right level of abstraction, and (b) what is useful, intuitive (or well-explained), and required in the context of wider strategies.
NICE TO HAVES
· Blockchain analysis / previous experience on blockchain analytics
· Previous experience working on the 'big data' side of tech (Hedge Funds / Fintech / Insuretec etc)
· Semantic Web and terminology - experience with OWL, RDF. JSON-LD, etc
