Engineering Manager

Who we are and what we doProperty management is hard. Particularly large-scale property management. When it comes to balancing working with vendors, managing contracts, taking bids for work, scoping & scheduling the work, and making sure the property is kept in tip-top shape, it often takes multiple people in full-time roles. And most of it shockingly hasn’t evolved beyond being managed with 90’s era technology. Email, excel, and pen-and-paper is where the industry is stuck. If you’ve ever worked in an office building or lived in an apartment high rise that had janky elevators, wasn’t quite the cleanest, or just didn’t quite seem like it was on top of general maintenance, they probably needed VendorPM’s help. This isn’t a small problem, either. We estimate that this is a $400B+ market that we can really make a difference in.That’s why we raised three rounds of funding from tier 1 VCs - to build a platform that makes general maintenance easier, and help give property managers visibility into areas that might be falling through the cracks. We’re passionate about bringing this to the world, and we want you along on this journey. Grow with usWe’re a small, but rapidly growing team. That means the work that you do will have a huge impact everywhere in every corner of the company. Opportunities for growth here are numerous, but to name a few for this role:

  • Chance to flex and grow your leadership muscles by growing the current team members and expanding the team.
  • Hands-on opportunity to set the software development best practices and teach them to the team
  • Practice your product chops by working with the product team to break down and communicate priorities in ways that engineers understand
What you can expectIf you’re the take-charge type of person who likes to forge new paths, tackle new problems, sculpt everything from product to company culture, and have a voice that’ll actually be heard, you’ll fit right in here. In addition to that, here are the top four things we’re looking for you to tackle:
  • Manage a mixed team of VendorPM engineers and 3rd party agency engineers, continuing to ensure that they’re working together as one team
  • Guide the team from an architectural perspective, making sure that we’re avoiding common pitfalls
  • Work directly with the product team to help craft tickets that are more specific to engineers
  • Set software development best practices, from CI/CD through code reviews
  • Help the VendorPM engineers under you grow in satisfying, fulfilling directions
Here’s the tech stack you’ll work with:Our technology is always evolving. And we want your deep involvement in that evolution. Here are the core foundational pieces that you can expect to dive into:
  • A React-based front-end
  • An Apollo-driven GraphQL, Node.js based back-end
  • A Postgresql based database
  • AWS services like RDS, EC2, and S3
  • CI/CD built on Github Actions

  • In 3 months you’ll
    • Start setting the software development best practice direction
    • Get your hands dirty with our CI/CD system
    • Have context on the product and have a driving voice in its direction
    • Help work with the product team directly to help communicate engineering requirements to the team
  • In 6 months you’ll
    • Help manage the AWS architecture
    • Help onboard and manage our third party software development partners to help scale out our product efforts
    • Audit our code review practices to make sure we’re writing code with minimal defects
