Android Developer needed for Wildlife Data-Gathering Applica
Our company is a scientific equipment manufacturer in Austin, TX. We're seeking an individual to continue development of our DCSLinkstream application, which is used by the NOAA and many US State offices to collect wildlife information. We are seeking a long term, part-time relationship with an experienced individual, not a service-provider/company, at this time.
Background:
This company is a small team. As such, we're looking for a single individual, not a company, who can work with us on a part-time and long-term basis. Hours per week will vary, averaging approximately 15, with surges of 30-40 periodically. Our preference is to work with someone for a minimum of 2 years.
Our data-collection application, called DCSLinkstream, runs on Android tablets and interfaces with our measurement electronics (or EMBs) via a Bluetooth link. The EMB is a portable, rugged and waterproof device used in the measurement of wildlife, including fish and shellfish. DCSLinkstream gathers data from the EMB, as well as calipers, weight-scales, RFID readers, GPS and other devices to create a data repository for field data. DCSLinkstream syncs the gathered data to a web application called DCSUnity, which uses Google's Firebase technology for storage.
There are several areas of DCSLinkstream we wish to improve, categories of which include: User-Interface, BT/device connectivity, Firebase cloud storage and cloud application integration, automated testing, crash reporting, data backup and implementation of Google's new "remote configuration" features for Android applications. In addition, we have a continual stream of new features coming from our user-base which we evaluate and implement.
About Our New Member:
Our ideal candidate is an individual contractor, not working for a company, and highly proficient in Android device programming and testing. Our successful candidate is experienced with interfacing with wireless devices, database structures and developing feature-rich but intuitive user-interfaces. The ability to work part-time with peaks and valleys of effort over an extended period of time is key.
