Software Engineer

We have a small product development team and we get stuff done. As a Software Engineer, you will build and maintain products.



As a Software Engineer, you will


  • develop and improve products and features that directly help low-income and at-risk families

  • find and squash bugs

  • coordinate with other engineers to accomplish complex projects

  • help members directly through light technical support as needed

  • work in a variety of platforms and frameworks, on the client and server

  • work with a variety of people, including non-technical stakeholders, low-income families, and other staff

  • enjoy working alone (about 80% of the time), but can easily work with others you will be supported by a team of fellow smart, mission-driven engineers

  • approach software engineering with humility and an interest in learning

  • believe your code will improve with input from others

  • can pass a background check (because you will have access to sensitive user information)



And have


  • a BS/BA degree, or equivalent knowledge, in Computer Science or related field

  • at least 2 years of experience as a software developer, maintaining products for real users

  • expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • experience with Rails and AngularJS, or similar web frameworks

  • experience with or an interest in learning iOS/Swift and Android/Java/Kotlin development

  • experience using Git

  • experience and an appreciation for writing tests

  • working knowledge of SQL, MongoDB, Solr or similar
