Site Reliability Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to join an emerging but mighty team of SREs to help us deliver best-in-class education technology software. Our daily work improves the future potential and prospects of children and young adults in grades K-12. Join us and work with a team of top-notch developers who are designing the future of education technology software. If you would like to apply your skills to affect a positive outcome in the world, it may be your new home. We would love to meet you!
Responsibilities
- Ensure the scalability, responsiveness, and resilience.
- Grow and nurture the collective knowledge of the SRE and QA Team through daily mentoring, coaching, and removing of blockers
- Report to the Director of Engineering; advise on all aspects of availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning
- Contribute directly to our software development process with your hands-on programming skills to build QA and Infrastructure automation software; help us achieve best-in-class observability, monitoring, logging, root cause analysis, and high-availability operations (through canary deployments and other zero-downtime techniques)
- Research, learn, and present findings on new technologies and approaches to complex problems; help shape and mold our multi-year strategic roadmap to ensure that we continue to push the envelope and deliver an exceptional user experience for children, young adults, teachers, and internal stakeholders
Skills & Experience
- Produce simple, readable infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Leverage your hands-on development experience in one compiled language (such as Java) and one interpreted language (such as Python)
- Leverage your AWS expertise to help us deliver resilient systems backed up by a best-in-class infrastructure
- You’re a teacher and mentor. You believe that a team truly grows when we all level up together!
Nice to Have
- Hands-on knowledge of a modern, compiled, non-JVM language such as Go or Rust, or a strong interest to learn and share your knowledge
- Prior experience with modern DevOps practices and tools, such as container orchestration with Kubernetes, and the observability of distributed systems
- Prior experience with feature flag development using a tool such as LaunchDarkly, and insight into the practices and processes that make feature flags a successful approach to achieving a high delivery tempo
- An online portfolio of your previous work, such as OSS contributions, a personal GitHub account, a blog, a YouTube channel, or other material in the public domain
