Line Item Requirements & Traceability - Application Development

Description

To achieve adequate control and to provide traceability throughout the lifecycle a structured tool-assisted approach was developed. Traceability is a quality initiative that ensures every requirement and functional or technical specification is adequately represented by a discreet test case and that each test, if, when executed, produces a defect. The defect is then traceable back to the test case as well as the original functional or technical specification or requirement. In order to achieve traceability it is important to control data input for requirements, specifications, test cases and defects and to enforce a numbering scheme to ‘relate’ these items to one another. It is through this numbered relationship that we can begin to explore for gaps in our testing coverage making sure that all requirements, and specifications are adequately tested.
