App Widget’s are miniature application that can be added in other applications (such as home screen) and receive periodic updates. It is a generic of application comprising portable code intended for one or more software applications. The following eight widgets were tested on the Android version’s Froyo and Gingerbread.

1. Stock Widget: Stock app widget, an Android app widget which allows user to select and save their preferred quotes. It allows user to monitor the business/finance news, market growth data graph from Yahoo financial services.

2. Weather Widget: Weather app widget is an Android app widget, which displays the weather information of the currently selected city. Weather widget uses the GPS to get the current location information. User will also have an option to select the city of interest. User can also configure the weather update frequency. Weather widget comes in two sizes tiny and large. Functional requirement captures the displayable information in tiny and large widget.

3. Calendar Widget: Calendar widget is an app widget that integrates with the pre-existing calendar on the phone and allows user to have timely, useful and concise information regarding the upcoming events.

4. News Feed Widget: News Feed reader widget is a single place where reader can read the news feeds from multiple sources.

5. Bookmark Widget: View favorite bookmarks on your phone’s home screen without launching browser. User can also launch the bookmarked site from this widget.

6. Media player Widget: This app widget allows controlling the music player. The app widget should support some basic functions like play, pause, and stop, previous and next. Provision for changing the tracks, displaying the album art and other media information should be provided.

7. Photo Frame Widget: The Photo frame app widget is a picture frame for the Android home screen that allows user to select pictures and display them as slideshow.
