Launch Vehicle Embedded Developer

Reaction Dynamics engineers are responsible for taking projects from concept through to tests/flight operations, and everything in between. they take full ownership over their systems: urgently troubleshooting issues at test sites, performing hands-on testing to inform development or root cause investigations, and implementing design or test upgrades to improve reliability. We are seeking hands-on engineers to work on development of embedded and real-time software for the rocket. Our flight software platform handles all of the vehicle’s software needs, including control of the engine, filling and pressurizing sequences, abort modes, telemetry uplink/downlink, and data acquisition.

A perfect candidate will have a strong background in embedded and real-time software development, understanding of test-driven development, and experience delivering high quality, reliable code.

Responsibilities:

• Perform bringup of new avionics prototypes
• Create and manage requirements for flight software
• Write drivers and firmware for interfacing with sensors and actuators on the vehicle
• Work with team members to implement control simulations into flight software
• Implement and test software for vehicle telemetry handling and data downlink
• Write high quality unit tests to ensure reliable code
• Prepare documentation and supporting material

Skills and Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in software engineering or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience developing embedded systems
• Proficiency with C
• Strong understanding of Python
• Strong understanding of software fundamentals
• Experience with development using a real-time OS
• Familiarity with continuous integration systems and unit testing
• Knowledge of rocket fundamentals a plus
• Willingness to work extended hours as needed
• Able to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
