VMware/WINTEL ENGINEER

Job Description

In this position, you will perform engineering tasks related to VMWare, Windows at a senior level. The candidate will create engineering level documentation consumable by system administration, operations and support staff as well as mentor junior staff on policy and procedure requirements.

• Responsible for supporting a variety of platforms including: desktops, laptops, tablets, VDI, printers, kiosks, and wireless scales

• Address patching/maintenance activities utilizing technologies such as Ivanti Shavlik

• Interface with business clients to recommend and develop technical solutions based on business requirements

• Adheres to defined standards

• Adheres to required policies and procedures (CRQ, INC, problem management, project management etc.)

• Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, and makes recommendations

• Engaging other teams to peer review proposed changes to standards

• Communicating documentation and policies to management

• Developing build documentation for pilot and deployment of new systems

• Ensures security standards are being met, and takes appropriate steps when deficiencies are uncovered

• Assists in disaster recovery testing as requested

• Remediates incident and service requests

• Drafts operational documentation as required

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

• College Degree in computer science, information sciences or related field and 6-8 years of experience; or 6+ years relevant experience

• Strong knowledge of Wintel computer hardware & operating systems (Windows 2003, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019) is required

• Strong working knowledge in enterprise backup disk-based solutions (DPM, Azure Backup, CommVault, and Veeam)

• Knowledge of industry standard maintenance practices and monitoring tools is required

• Experience with Windows Active Directory is required

• Strong working knowledge of Enterprise grade virtualization

• Working knowledge in PowerShell (with Ansible)

• Working knowledge in Ivanti Shavlik

• Working knowledge in Microsoft VMM is preferred but not required

• Working knowledge in Microsoft SCCM is preferred but not required

• Working knowledge in Microsoft SCOM is preferred but not required

• Strong working knowledge in enterprise storage solutions is a plus

• Firm understanding of IT terms and concepts with ability to read vendor documentation and perform related duties accurately

• Detailed experience with VMWare, Windows and Linux servers in an administration, operations and support role

• Must be able to create engineering level documentation representing proposed, pilot, and as-built systems
