Description

PwC, head-quartered in London is a professional services firm. It is a network of firms present in about 157
countries providing services in Audit & Assurance, Advisory, Tax and IFS. This project is an extension of the
already rolled out application. The suite of applications used in identification of tax favoured zones needed
change in business and technical functionality to correct inaccurate results and fix bugs that were logged byend users during the warranty support phase. The zonal area maps were becoming mutually exclusive
when new areas and related census tracts were added to the application. As a consequence, the results
were inaccurate during the bulk address lookups. Also, the application was now required to support
additional work flows during the address pending verification process.

Description

PwC, head-quartered in London is a professional services firm. It is a network of firms present in about 157
countries providing services in Audit & Assurance, Advisory, Tax and IFS. The project undertaken here is an
initiative of SALT (State and Local Taxes) Sub-LoS within the Tax Line of Services (LoS). The SALT C&I (Credits
and Incentives) practice within it was looking at adoption of end-to-end technology-enabled solution that is
able to manage the entire credits assessment, application and claim calculation process. Local, State and
Federal jurisdictions offer a broad range of tax credits to companies to locate their business, invest capital
or hire employees within incentive or tax credit zones. To capitalize on this, an application was needed for
identification of tax favoured zones within US. The application or the system consisted of a suite of web
based automated software tools to help provide decision aids for customers in order to obtain tax benefit.
This application helps reduce tax and non-tax costs for PwC clients by identifying tax favoured zones across
US, primarily by running a detailed address match of business and the employees' locations against zone
maps, detailed address ranges and census tracts to ascertain whether addresses are located in tax favoured
zones. This unique functionality was ultimately leveraged by the SALT Platform to determine location-based
eligibility. So, in the process, TaxOvation (LoCATE) become one of the key enablers in providing an end-to-
end solution for credits and incentives.
