OSS/ BSSThe home location register (HLR) is a central database that contains details of each mobile phone subscriber that is authorized to use the GSM core network. There can be severallogical, and physical, HLRs per public land mobile network (PLMN), though one international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI)/MSISDN pair can be associated with only one logical HLR (whichcan span several physical nodes) at a time. The HLRs store details of every SIM card issued by the mobile phone operator. Each SIM has a unique identifier called an IMSI which is the primary key to each HLR record. The next important items of data associated with the SIM are the MSISDNs, which are the telephone numbers used by mobile phones to make and receive calls. The primary MSISDNis the number used for making and receiving voice calls and SMS, but it is possible for a SIM to have other secondary MSISDNs associated with it for fax and data calls. Each MSISDN is also aprimary key to the HLR record. The HLR data is stored for as long as a subscriber remains with the mobile phone operator.Examples of other data stored in the HLR against an IMSI record is:GSM services that the subscriber has requested or been given.GPRS settings to allow the subscriber to access packet services.Current location of subscriber (VLR and serving GPRS support node/SGSN).Call divert settings applicable for each associated MSISDN.

OSS/ BSS1. SCP- BILLINGA service control point (SCP) is a standard component of an intelligent network (IN) telephone system which is used to control the service. Standard SCPs in the telecomindustry today are deployed using SS7, Sigtran or SIP technologies. The SCP queries the service data point (SDP) which holds the actual database and directory. SCP, using the database fromthe SDP, identifies the geographical number to which the call is to be routed2. SMSC* When an SMS message is sent from a mobile phone, it will reach an SMS center first.* The SMS center then forwards the SMS message towards the destination.* The main duty of an SMSC is to route SMS messages and regulate the process. If the recipient is unavailable (for example, when the mobile phone is switched off), theSMSC will store the SMS message.* It will forward the SMS message when the recipient is available.I. Validity Period of an SMS Message - An SMS message is stored temporarily in the SMS center if the recipient mobile phone is offline. It is possible to specify the period afterwhich the SMS message will be deleted from the SMS center so that the SMS message will not be forwarded to the recipient mobile phone when it becomes online.II. Message Status Reports - The SMS sender needs to set a flag in the SMS message to notify the SMS center that he wants the status report about the delivery of this SMSmessage. This status report is sent to the SMS sender in the form of an SMS message.3. VMSVoicemail messages are stored on hard disk drives, media generally used by computers to store other forms of data. Messages are recorded in digitized natural human voicesimilar to how music is stored on a CD. To retrieve messages, a user calls the system from any phone, logs on using Touch-tones (clearing security), and their messages can be retrievedimmediately. Many users can retrieve or store messages at the same time on the same voicemail system. Many voicemail systems also offer an automated attendant facility. Automated attendants enable callers to a main business number to access directory service or self-route the call tovarious places such as a specific department, an extension number, or to an informational recording in a voice mailbox, etc.
