In keeping with the ongoing IT initiatives of the Indian Navy, there is requirement to provide a Health Information System for complete automation of medical as well as unit based administrative functionality. While limited functionality pertaining to unit functions are being catered for by providing a separate software system, complete medical functionality as well assume of the unit functions would need tobe catered for by the proposed NHIMS. The NHIMS is aimed at automating all administrative, logistics and patient care management functions of a NavalHospital,at the hospital level. Naval Healthcare Information Management System (NHIMS) consists of different functionalities of Hospital. It is built on technology standards of WS* and Healthcare industry standards such as HL/7 and adapting Service Oriented Architecture principles, to enable NHIMS client implementations to leverage the benefits of extensibility, manageability using services. The solution uses workflow orchestration strategy to externalize theflow of process steps from the implementation of the business logic, which makes the NHIMS solution scalable and independent of individual departmental requirements. The solution also would externalize business rules into a rule engine, quickly configure business rules as per the futuristic requirements /amendments that may be added to system.
