This is a trade facilitation project done for the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia. This project has been awarded second place in the category Improving transparency, accountability and responsiveness in the Public Service at the annual United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) 2010. This project is ranked as one of the top five most commonly used e-services in Saudi Arabia. The client is an autonomous company named Tabadul, which was formed directly by the Government in Saudi Arabia. All trading, in and out of Saudi Arabia, has to use this application. The four modes of transportation; namely air, sea, land and dry (train) are used. Currently 9 ports are using this application. The client has targets to increase the number of ports to 20. The application is mainly divided in to three sub categories – manifest, delivery order and declaration. The main users of the application are shipping agents, custom brokers, train operators and marine agents. In any case, a manifest is raised which has details about the goods that are shipped. Secondly a delivery order is created and handed to the carrier, which will specify to whom the goods need to be delivered. Finally, a declaration is created by the receiver who needs to receive the goods. In some cases, Saudi Arabia can be a point of transit. All the activities done by SaudiEDI are communicated to Saudi Customs. This is done by exchanging data as xml files. Each processing of data will create an xml which will be passed to the customs. Customs from their end will analyses, process the xml and send a response xml.
