Portfolio Projects

Description

Krew is AI-assisted Zoom for fitness. I lead and mentored a team of engineers and managed end-to-end development across a range of projects. These included:

- Engineering Management — I managed our sprints to ensure we were in line with the product roadmap, supported our team through regular code reviews and pair programming to improve code quality, and interviewed candidates for hiring. I also regularly checked in with developers to connect with their needs at a personal level and to avoid burnout.
- Video Conferencing — Took ownership of the development of our video conferencing application, coordinating heavily with upstream vendors and product testers.
- Content Wall — owned the end-to-end development of an Instagram clone for fitness professionals to showcase their content. Features included bookmarks, multiple-content uploads, content normalisation, native sharing, expiring content, paid/free content, buying packaged content, AI-assisted preview for paid content etc.
- Calendar Widget — built the functionality for fitness professionals to theme and embed their calendars externally on their own home pages, allowing them to showcase availability and bookable upcoming sessions.
- Analytics Infrastructure — set up the infrastructure to collect and visualise business-critical analytics across the product using Amplitude. The business intelligence dashboards I built directly drove our product redesign and optimized our strategic product decisions.
- OSS Development — built and published an NPM package called change-CSS to help other developers easily theme parts of their websites or build embeddable iframes.
- Maintenance — migrated our old codebase from Vue 2 to Vue 3 and added features to ensure code quality and improve developer experience such as unit tests, linting, formatting, pre-commit hooks and storybooks.

Anki on AI steroids. Inspired by the book ‘Make it Stick’, Scholared was built to make it easy to integrate science-backed learning methods such as Active Recall, Spaced Repetition and Interleaving into schools. We scaled to 1900 students and then pivoted to licensing the API. At Scholared, I worked both as CEO and CTO with a team that started with 1 other developer and scaled to a team of 7.

- DevOps — Architected a highly scalable and economical hybrid application using both serverless and traditional hosting, with a daily average peak load of 200 users at <$10 monthly operational costs. [Vuejs/Nuxt, Firebase, Express, Flask and PostgreSQL]
- Product — Built a teacher dashboard with data about students in the class complete with a student overview, class overview and querying capabilities
- Team Building — Recruited and mentored 2 developers in Vuejs and Nodejs while managing 2 interns for QA
- Machine Learning — In addition to this, I built a machine learning server that helped choose the right difficulty of questions for the student using a modified version of an ensemble model. This helped progressive load students which helped them improve their test scores up to double their previous scores
- Sales and marketing — Despite covid, I piloted our product with 10 schools and talked to administrators, students, teachers, and parents to understand their take on what would help. Out of the 10 schools, I signed 3 of them as paid subscribers with many students taking up individual subscriptions from the other schools

  • KIM focused on making the transition to EV more affordable by converting existing commercials fleets to electric. I was responsible for developing the smart features that the vehicles were equipped with. During my time at KIM, here are some of my achievements:
    • Fundraising — Won a seed grant of $3,500 from my university for the initial prototype development and further secured an order of two EVs from them (pending approval from government bodies)
    • Smart Insurance — Designed a insurance strategy that helped commercial vehicle drivers and fleet owners hedge their risk against failing/ageing batteries. This helped secure early stage funding from the Keiretsu group
    • Team building — Recruited and mentored 3 software interns in Vuejs, Expressjs, PostgreSQL and Flask.
    • Feedback driven development — Talked to 30 commercial drivers and fleet owners to continuously iterate on a companion mobile app for the vehicles
    • External vendor negotiations — Negotiated the commercials and SLAs of various components such as the battery management system, sensors, and onboard microcontrollers, with Chinese and Taiwanese vendors.
