About Me
Exactly what should a Business Architect do?Business Architecture in the IT arena is inevitably service oriented. A businessarchitect should be identifying the key enterprise information business serviceswhether or not the technical architecture beco...fying the key enterprise information business serviceswhether or not the technical architecture becomes service-oriented. He should bedividing these services up into irreducible units of business logic. These aresupporting components of the services which provide one conceptually simpledeliverable. The BA abstracts the business rules from these components whichaggregate up into the services proper. He has an intimate knowledge of the usecases of these components including their rules, and perhaps even documents themhimself. He then describes how different and perhaps new workflows can be basedupon these services and components as a competitive advantage or a marketoriented requirement. The business architect is then in a position to communicatewith the executive suite about problems and opportunities in the information-basedbusiness architecture. Opportunities for innovation become clear inside of thecontext he develops and educates executives about. The relationship and impact ofnew technology to the firms business services, as its business architecture, can beclearly understood within that context. This includes the extent to which the rulesconstraining the components are either advancing or getting in the way of the firmsmarket-oriented goals. It also includes an effort to increase the flexibility of thoserules and their direct management by business experts. Subsequently, the businessarchitect documents a road map for evolving the business services into thecompetitive advantage which every firm needs them to be, including how thatevolution issues in a particular market position which has been selected by the firmsmarketing authorities.
