The total cost of ownership of the Lawson implementation at the company has reached unsustainable levels. Although an upgrade to the core accounting software is due, the current business process architecture of the Lawson system is outdated and does not support industry-leading practices.

Four primary factors appear to be driving the high TCO (total cost of ownership):

• The current business processes and supporting functionality is distributed between the core Lawson

accounting system and mainframe-based operational applications

• A large number of back and forth integration points and data transfers between Lawson and

operational applications need to be maintained, supported and tested

• There is significant customization of the Lawson system, affecting the ability of JM and the hosting

provider to support the overall solution, in addition to constraining the ability to enable business

process improvement.

• There is limited master data management – master data exists in several places, often in duplicate.
